We use your information for the following purposes:

To Provide Products and Services

  • To troubleshoot problems with the Website or mobile application, or to customize your experience.

  • To assess appropriate forbearance options if you are in financial difficulties.

For Queries and Support

  • To respond to any queries or complaints you raise.

  • To inform you if an application you started is incomplete.

  • For training purposes and to enhance or review the service we provide.

For Legal Obligations

  • To prevent, investigate, and prosecute crime, fraud, and money laundering; and for auditing purposes.

  • If we are legally required to disclose information by law, regulation, or court order.

  • If we, or a fraud prevention agency, determine that you pose a fraud or money-laundering risk, we may refuse to provide the services and financing you requested, or we may stop providing existing services to you. A record of any such risk will be retained by fraud prevention agencies, which may result in others refusing to provide services, financing, or employment to you. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

5. How We Might Share Your Information

We may share your personal information with the following third parties to help us provide services and products to you.

  • Our partners, including brokers, introducers, lenders, and motor dealers we work with. The specific partners depend on your credit profile and the criteria set by the lender. These may include but are not limited to:

    • Autolend

    • Automoney

    • Glenside Finance

    • Mallard Finance

    • Marsh Finance

    • Oodle Car Finance

  • Our subsidiaries or affiliates for the purpose of managing our customer relationships, administering our business, and providing you with information about other products and services that may interest you.

  • Service providers who need to know the information to provide a product or service to us or you. This includes third-party service providers who process information on our behalf to run internal business operations, such as email distribution, electronic signature processing, storage of customer documentation, HR portals, IT services, customer services, and data analytics (using anonymized data).

  • Third-party credit providers, at your request, if you are unsuccessful in applying for personal lending services. In such cases, these third-party credit providers will become the relevant data controller.

  • Credit and fraud agencies (including Call Credit, Equifax, Experian, and Cifas) to help us make decisions.

  • Law enforcement bodies to comply with any legal obligation or court order.

  • Third parties for the purpose of validating and assessing fitness and suitability for any employment application.

  • Entities that may or do acquire any rights in us for a business sale or reorganization.

  • Occasionally, we may make your details available to reputable suppliers of credit and insurance-related services that we feel may be of interest to you, where you have agreed to receive such marketing.

  • Debt recovery agencies, tracing agents, investigators, or solicitors for the purpose of collecting monies or assets that are due or outstanding on your account.

  • We reserve the right to sell performing and non-performing accounts. We will inform you if we do this.

Credit Checking and Automated Decision Making When you apply for any of our products or services, we and/or our lenders will carry out checks with credit reference agencies (“CRAs”), including:

  • “Soft searches” or “quotation searches,” which check publicly available information such as the Electoral Register, County Court Judgments (CCJs), bankruptcy, or repossession information. These searches are only visible to you.

  • “Hard searches” or “credit application searches,” which check data related to your financial situation and history. These may be visible to other third parties, such as potential lenders.

We will use this information to:

  • Assess your creditworthiness and whether you can afford the product.

  • Verify the accuracy of the data you provided.

  • Prevent criminal activity, fraud, and money laundering.

  • Manage your account(s).

  • Trace and recover debts.

  • Ensure any offers provided to you are appropriate for your circumstances.

We will continue to exchange information about you with CRAs as long as you have a relationship with us. We will also inform the CRAs about your settled accounts. If you borrow and do not repay in full and on time, CRAs will record the outstanding debt, and this information may be supplied to other organizations.

When CRAs receive a search from us, they will place a search footprint on your credit file that other lenders may see.

If you are making a joint application or tell us that you have a spouse or financial associate, we will link your records together. You should discuss this with them and share this information before lodging the application. CRAs will also link your records, and these links will remain on both of your files until one of you successfully files for a disassociation with the CRAs to break the link.

When fraud prevention agencies transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area, they impose contractual obligations on the recipients to protect your personal data to the standard required in the European Economic Area. They may also require the recipient to subscribe to international frameworks intended for secure data sharing.

6. Retention of Your Personal Information

The personal information you provide will be retained by us in accordance with applicable laws. However, in line with our lawful basis, data will only be retained according to our policy and used for the purposes detailed. Any marketing activity will only be undertaken with your consent after the conclusion of your relationship or employment with Carfinancego.

Our retention policies are aligned with individual rights and freedoms, and any request made under those rights will be met in accordance with our stated lawful bases or obligations.

7. Sensitive Personal Data

Sensitive personal data includes information about an individual’s health and other protected categories of personal information (e.g., criminal convictions). We do not generally process such information unless you have voluntarily provided it to us (for example, if you have notified us of a health issue).

By providing us with sensitive personal data, you agree that you did so voluntarily and that we can use it to deliver products or services to you and/or determine your fitness to use them. Where possible, we will seek to minimize the collection and use of such sensitive personal data.

8. Marketing

If you tell us you are happy to receive information from us, we may send you communications about products that we believe may be of interest to you, including products and/or services from our partners, where we have your agreement.

Depending on your selected contact preferences, we will communicate with you by letter, telephone, SMS, email, or other electronic means, such as social and digital media.

If at any time you prefer not to receive further communications from us in any or all forms (except for information, products, or services that you specifically request), you will have the ability to unsubscribe. This can be done via a link provided in every email we send to you, or by contacting us directly.

9. Keeping Your Information Secure

We invest appropriate resources to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. In particular:

  • We regularly review our information collection, storage, and processing practices, including physical security measures, to guard against unauthorized system access.

  • We restrict access to personal information to Carfinancego employees, contractors, and agents who need to know that information to process it for us. They are subject to strict contractual confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or have their contract terminated if they fail to meet these obligations.

  • We and the other companies processing your data may need to process it in countries outside the European Economic Area. Different privacy laws may apply in these countries, and you understand and unambiguously agree to the transfer of personal information to these countries and parties. We only make these arrangements or transfers when we are satisfied that adequate levels of protection are in place or that the service provider complies with applicable privacy laws.

10. Cookies

Our website uses cookies, including Google Analytics cookies, to obtain an overall view of visitor habits and volumes to our Website. To view more information on what cookies we use and how we use them, please review our separate Cookie Policy.

We recommend that you check this page regularly to stay up-to-date.

We will store your personal information for up to 12 months. After this period, we will store your personal information for a total of six years from the point of our last engagement with you. This is to enable us to refer to our records in the unlikely event that you need to lodge a complaint against us within six years.
